Feeling Deviant

I recently started my own page over at DeviantArt.com
http://jakegeiger.deviantart.com/
Swing by if you have a chance and check it out. Feel free to leave comments of love or ridicule.

This Voodoo girl is a photoshop color study that I did for a painting that I just recently completed. The final painting is in acrylic on board and I found a great old ornate frame at a thrift store that I put it in. I will post pics of the final painting soon.

Up to no good...

This guy looks like he is ready to get into some kind of trouble.
Drawn on a plane flying over the Atlantic in extreme turbulence....The flight attendant looked at me trying to draw and just laughed and said "Good luck."
I think it came out pretty good though :)

Halloween Hangover

Man, this has been one of the busiest Halloween seasons in recent memory. And I now have an official case of Halloween Hangover.....the only cure is to sleep, and plan for next year. Man I love Halloween.
Thankfully, between all of the Halloween festivities I still managed to get in my drawing time each day. Below are a few of the sketches I did.

CamarĂ³n de Mariachi

This little guy was a quick sketch that I did while down in Mazatlan, Mexico before we went to eat at a restaurant called the Shrimp Bucket.
Mmmmmm.....buckets of shrimp

Purrcasso '09

I recently finished my entries for this years Purrcasso Art and Craft Gala. For those who don't know, Purrcasso is an art and craft auction that benefits the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society in Berkeley, CA. I stumbled upon it in my internet wanderings and thought it would be a great thing to contribute to. I'm all for helping dogs and cats in need.

Check out the website if you are interested: http://purrcasso.org/

Here are my two submissions for this year, both watercolor

Inuit Killer whale

I have always thought native Inuit designs were very visually striking. One day I had a thought that a cartoon style killer whale might look cool covered in Inuit designs. The first killer whale I started just ended up as a standard killer whale....no designs. But when I finally got some reference and started working it out more this is what I came up with.

I feel sorry for whoever this guy is looking at.

komodo dragon

I didn't intend this one to be a girl. But it felt kind of feminine to me...so a girl it became.
"How do tell if its a girl?" I hear you ask....because it has eyelashes of course. I thought lipstick would be a little to much.
Come to think of it I don't do feminine looking animals enough. I will have to put that on my list of things to do for future animals.

Egyptian Vulture

I'm back from a nice relaxing beach trip to Mazatlan. It was a nice break...but I didn't take a break from sketching. Ill have some of those ready to post soon. In the meantime, here is a stylized Egyptian vulture I did a little while ago.

Odosketch

In my recent wanderings of the interweb I stumbled upon an awesome online sketching app that is really fun and does a decent job of replicating the look and feel of sketching with some real world mediums. And one of the coolest features is that you can play back an animation of the sketch being created once you are finished.
Check it out! Its good fun. http://sketch.odopod.com/

Here is a little bluebird that I did.

The cleaning bug

Im sure this is something that everyone has gone through at one time or another. Every once in a while you catch the cleaning bug. Oh sure, you start out as friends and everything is fine. You feel motivated and productive in the beginning..........but you only end up angry and burnt out by the end.
Beware the cleaning bug.

Rikuo from Darkstalkers

I am a huge fan of the Darkstalkers video game
A little while ago Udon publishing was asking for entries for their Darkstalkers tribute art book. This is one of my entries...sadly, it was not chosen. Oh well, better luck next time :)

Monkey Business

This one started out as a random sketch in my sketchbook that I decided I would color in Photoshop instead of using the markers I usually use.

Too big for one page

I started this guy with the intention of not drawing his head....but after I finished I just couldnt leave him headless, so I finished him on the next page.

Nothing but trouble....

This was just a quick sketch I had done one day and I thought it was pretty funny, so I decided to throw a little color into it.
